ENZ with Spermicide questions, answered
Still have a question? Email us anytime at info@condom-usa.com.
What is nonoxynol-9?
It's a spermicide, a chemical coating that kills sperm. On a condom, it's meant as extra protection against pregnancy if the condom fails.
Does spermicide protect against STIs?
No. The condom itself lowers STI risk; the spermicide adds nothing there. Nonoxynol-9 can also irritate vaginal and anal tissue, so frequent use isn't recommended.
Can I use spermicidal condoms for anal sex?
No. Trojan's label says spermicidal lubricants are not for rectal use. Choose a non-spermicidal condom and plenty of lube for anal sex.
